Unit 1: What Doctrine Is
Apostolic doctrine begins with God revealing Himself.
It is not the product of human imagination, philosophical speculation, or denominational creativity.
Doctrine exists because God speaks, and the Church receives what He reveals.
This is the foundation of all Apostolic teaching:
Doctrine is not discovered — it is revealed.
In the Apostolic understanding, doctrine is truth that:
Doctrine is divine in origin, not human in construction.
This is why the Apostolic Church insists on preaching:
“The Apostles’ doctrine” — not our own.
Human beings do not create doctrine.
We receive it.
Doctrine is:
This protects the Church from drifting into personal opinions, cultural trends, or theological inventions.
Apostolic doctrine is handed down, not made up.
Because doctrine is revealed, it carries authority.
Its authority does not come from:
Its authority comes from God Himself.
This is why the Apostolic Church treats doctrine as:
Revelation gives doctrine its weight.
When God reveals truth, He is not only informing His people — He is forming them.
Revelation shapes:
Revelation is not just information — it is identity formation.
This is why Apostolic doctrine produces a distinct way of living.
The Apostolic Church follows a pattern that originates in revelation:
These are not traditions.
They are revealed truths that form the Apostolic identity.
Doctrine is the pattern God gives — and the Church embodies.
Write a brief reflection describing a moment when God revealed something to you — through Scripture, preaching, or prayer — and how that revelation shaped your identity or understanding of Him.
Focus on how revelation forms, not just what it teaches.
