Defining Inerrancy and Infallibility

Inerrancy

Inerrancy means that the Scriptures, in their original writings, contain no errors. Everything the Bible affirms—whether doctrinal, historical, moral, or spiritual—is true.

Infallibility

Infallibility means that the Scriptures cannot fail. Because God is perfect, His Word is perfect, and it cannot mislead, deceive, or be proven false.

The Two Concepts Together

Inerrancy
→ The Bible does not contain error
Infallibility
→ The Bible cannot contain error

One describes what Scripture is. The other describes what Scripture can never be.
